The use of these statutes and Federal Grand Juries was what finally broke the back of the New Left in the 60's along with several years of infiltration run by experienced source handlers. With the agent reports in hand we turned about thirty percent of them and they ratted out the rest. Hardly anybody was convicted of much, but years of having to appear, sit in jail during the FGJ's term if you stood silent, worry about who was a rat and pay for attorney's eventually ground them down.
